The Gentle Yoga Teacher Training is for those who wish to discover how to be a yoga teacher or further their practice in a nurturing environment tailored to a slower and sweeter way of moving the body. Learn the fundamental postures, proper ways of aligning the body, and how to sequence a class creatively and safely.
We will spend a significant amount of time practicing and teaching with a variety of props and the use of hands to heal and facilitate a deeper experience for your students. Learn how to create and hold space, practice breath and meditation while building a tool box of unique yogic practices designed to transform your life in the softer side of yoga.
Over the course of the last two weekends, we delve into the rich philosophy of yoga spanning a history of over 5000 years. Learn how to weave these themes into your classes with depth, authenticity, and confidence. We begin with the birth of Hatha Yoga and the more recent evolution of Modern Postural Yoga.
We then step further back in time, back to the ancient Vedas and Upanishads, and track the refinement of their ideas in the Bhagavad Gita and later in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. We then examine the non-dualist counter-current brought by Vedanta and Tantra.
Following this, we go back chronologically to catch up with the birth of Buddhism and study the development of the different approaches of Theravada, and the Mahayana schools of Zen and Vajrayana, culminating in the modern practice of Buddhism in America. We also look at how Western psychology and modern neuroscience have been influenced by the Eastern model.
Rather than dry, academic monologues, this vibrant material is presented through captivating stories and lively discussions, revealing how these philosophical principles apply to you as a teacher and a modern yogi.
Required Books:
Buddha’s Brain by Rick Hanson
Wisdom of Yoga by Stephen Cope
