Trauma-Informed Restorative Yoga Teacher Training with Deborah Berryman

Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun Date: May 15 2025 - May 18 2025 From: 9:15 AM - 5:15 PM
Join Deborah Berryman for an experience that will introduce you to the practice, concepts and the true importance and benefits of including trauma-informed techniques into your teaching.

Restorative yoga is considered the true antidote to stress because it allows you to relax deeply with awareness. Relaxing with awareness is the key to bringing the mind-body into a state of balance or homeostasis, similar to the effect of meditation. It’s easy to be swept away by the demands of modern life. Today’s pace of life means we are often in a state of high alert, causing our bodies to release stress hormones that stimulate the ‘fight or flight’ response. This affects our ability to sleep soundly, digest our food, focus, feel grounded, and even our ability to conceive a child.

When 1 in 3 adults report having experienced developmental trauma, it’s important we understanding trauma is about what has happened to the body, not what is wrong with the body. We will cover the neurobiology (brain and nervous system) and physiology (body operating systems) of trauma and prolonged stress (Complex/Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and how to apply this wisdom into your teaching. This approach will also provide support with verbal cueing and set up of postures, sequencing, and creating a safe space for all students.

Teaching and Practicing Trauma-Informed Restorative Yoga can be a powerful tool in aiding the process of regulating the nervous system and help undo the effects of stress – bringing about a sense of feeling grounded, calm, relaxed and safe.

Understanding The Science & Philosophy of Yoga Nidra with James Reeves

Sat, Sun Date: Oct 04 2025 - Oct 05 2025 From: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
James's heartfelt gentleness and masterful wisdom shine through in his teachings. His expertise lies in his ability to light the path for others to find their own way.’
Richard Miller
clinical psychologist, researcher and yogic scholar

Are you looking to deepen your understanding of rest? Would you like to know how to facilitate Yoga Nidra classes? Have you been considering creating your own Yoga Nidra offerings, but are unsure where to start?

Find peace in a restless world. Yoga Nidra is currently sweeping the globe and is recognised as one of the ‘go-to’ practices for recovering from long-term fatigue. People use this practice to help fall asleep, heal chronic pain, and improve well-being. Scientific research shows us the efficacy of rest as the antidote for a restless world and a way to recover from stress, overwhelm, and burnout.

This 2-day event will support you to get started as a Yoga Nidra teacher, or help you go deeper with your teaching. Over the weekend you’ll learn:

  • What Is Yoga Nidra? - the history, tradition, and modern evolution of the practice
  • Hypnagogic state - Why resting between asleep and awake is powerful and the relationship between our conscious and subconscious
  • Making Intentions - How and why we make intentions at the start of each practice
  • The Kosha Model - Why Yoga Nidra has a universal approach to examining each layer of our human experience: the body, breath and energy system, emotions, mind, ego-self, and the bliss that lies beyond all of these
  • Working with opposites - understand this foundational tool both scientifically and experientially
  • Neuroscience - Relate this ancient practice to modern neuro-scientific discoveries, and know how to explain this and teach this in your classes and courses
  • Sleep Science - How Yoga Nidra relates to sleep and how to structure practices to enhance sleep
  • Consciousness - Explore what lies beyond the human experience and how to teach and create meaningful experiences of deep stillness and awakening to true nature through the lenses of science, dualistic, and non-dual philosophies

You will receive some of James’ own Yoga Nidra Scripts to help get you started along with an abridged digital version of the Deep Rest Yoga Nidra training manual.

Come and join us for this deep, thought-provoking, and insightful weekend. You don't need to be a teacher or teacher in training to attend this event. This might be ‘just for you’ and you’d be welcome if that’s the case.

James is recognised as a world-leading authority on the theory and practice of Yoga Nidra meditation and is the author of the internationally published best seller about Yoga Nidra/Rest; The Book Of Rest (2019, Harper Collins)

He has 20 years experience of Yoga Nidra and been teaching since 2005. He created his most recent organisation, Deep Rest, in 2022. The work of Deep Rest is founded on ancient traditions and backed by modern, research-based practices.

James travels the world, giving talks and facilitating training programs. Warm, invitational, and grounded in practical experience, he has a reputation for making his teachings relevant and accessible for modern-day living and shows how the healing benefits of taking time to slow down, stop, and rest can apply to us all.

Sat, Sun Date: Jan 31 2026 - Feb 01 2026 From: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Join us for a two day restorative teacher training delivered by Aoife O'Dalaigh. This is a practical guide to help bring this resting practice into your personal practice, yoga room, or therapy space.

This training will help de-mystify the art and science behind deep and conscious rest. We will explore the practical side to using props to support the body. This training will also emphasise finding your own voice to lead and guide people in a compassionate way.

  • Be a student and experience a restorative practice on both days of the training.
  • Delve into the nervous system and why it is so important to learn how to ‘turn on’ the parasympathetic nervous system.
  • Work with the Koshas to bring students into the more subtle energetic body.
  • Learn how to use your props, including blanket folding, and the use of minimal props.
  • Learn the most fundamental restorative poses and how to guide you or your students in and out of them.
  • Explore effective verbal cueing and structuring a class that feels inclusive and safe for all practitioners. Then put that all together to practice teach with each other. Look at bodies in poses to see how you might help support a student or when to back off.

Who is this course for

This two day Yoga Alliance course is for anyone who wants to explore their relationship with resting ‘on purpose’. The training can be used to deepen your personal practice or for Yoga teachers, therapists, nurses, and anyone in the healing arts.
