Sadhana means practice. Join our Summer Sadhana + Dharma Challenge to bring meaning, evolution, and connection to your summer! This interactive, online and in-person experience invites the entire community to:
• Practice yoga asana at least 3 times a week, with a weekly anatomy theme as a practice focus

• Read a Living Your Yoga by Judith Lasater with Keith’s support and guidance.  Note:  Judith Lasater is teaching at the Mandir in December, this is a great way to immerse in her teachings before studying in-person with her.

• Respond daily or weekly about how you are putting the teachings into practice and what you are learning about yourself through the process

• Be in touch with our community in-person and through online dialogue about all of the above

Yoga Alliance / YACEP: Keith as an E-RYT500. This course will be eligible for 40 hours with the Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Program for those who complete all the requirements (7 weeks, during each week 3 yoga classes, 1 Friday Summer Sadhana class (which can also be watched retroactively) and 1-1.5 hours or reading / writing).  Please note, you do not need to complete all these requirements to participate!  You are welcome to participate as you are able.  A 40-hour certificate will be sent to those who complete the full course. 

This course needs a minimum of 8 students enrolled by  June 4.  

Full Moon Sound Bath with Stephanie Stelly

Have you ever felt the desire to rest under the mesmerizing glow of the full moon? Join us at Swan River Yoga for our monthly Full Moon Sound Bath, guided by Stephanie Stelly.

Upon arrival, we’ll begin with a brief introduction, followed by the opportunity to choose an oracle card. This card can help steer you toward positive self-reflection for the evening. You’ll then be invited to lie down on your mat, using props for added comfort. While Stephanie will recommend a restorative posture, you are free to decide what feels best for you during this 75-minute sound bath experience.

The session will commence with a guided meditation, seamlessly transitioning into a sound bath featuring a variety of instruments, including crystal bowls, Tibetan bowls, tingsha bells, a bendo seed shaker, an ocean drum, and koshi chimes. At the end of the experience, Stephanie will provide writing materials and leave space for journaling any thoughts, visions, emotions, or insights that arise, allowing for deep personal healing.

Our studio is equipped with yoga mats, bolsters, blocks, straps, blankets, chairs, hand weights, eye pillows, sandbags, and four back jacks for those who prefer a seated incline.

Feel free to bring your own props if that makes you more comfortable, but rest assured that we have everything you need for a soothing experience.

In these workshops, we’ll take a deeper dive into the yoga postures, ancient teachings, and energetics of
the subtle body. The small-group format will allow time for questions, discussions and a short meditation,
as well as individually tailored assists and modifications.
 
Dates and Themes:
June 20: Connect and Flow. We’ll break down the poses linked in sun salutations, explore how breath
connects the poses, and refine our transitions from one pose to the next. We’ll close with a restorative
pose to ground and center the body.
 
July 18: Yoga for the Chakras. Based on an ancient sequence attributed to the 10th/11th century teacher,
Lady Niguma, this practice takes us through poses to unlock and balance the energetic system. We’ll work
with breathing practices (pranayama) and visualizations as well as accessible physical poses to nourish
and calm the energetic system and mind.
August 15: Balance and Steadiness. We’ll build strength and balance in a variety of poses. In addition to
standing poses, we will explore arm balances and/or inversions depending on participants’ interests.
Modifications will always be offered. We’ll discuss ways to foster continuity within our practice with ideas
for practicing at home and how to return to our practice after injuries or other life “interruptions.”

Join Raney-Mills to find out how to use your own intuition and energy body to do these things and more! Learning to clear ourselves of inappropriate energies while nourishing the light we innately have is the beginning of understanding both Reiki and energy itself.
This requires a subtle awareness and sensitivity of perception to one's own intuition and felt energetic state. Within each of us is a sacred Center, untouched by trauma narratives, and this Reiki 1 class is the first step in learning how to access this place.

This course does not teach you to yet give Reiki to others, but to first experience, access the tools and feel it for yourself.
You will not do Reiki or energy work on anyone in Level 1, which makes this wide open to the many beings this can serve.
Serve yourself and clear yourself first before attending to others. You will leave with the required Reiki 1 attunements that give you permission to take this to the next levels of Reiki 2-3.

Raney-Mills Turner is a wholehearted Registered Art Therapist, a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Reiki 3 Master Practitioner, and Level II Trauma Resolution Energy Worker. She is a body-positive, sex-positive, whole-life-oriented guide and educator, a watercolorist, a neuroscience junkie, a damn good friend, and a mom of 3 littles and 2 bonus tweens.
Her private practice in New Orleans, Louisiana, just turned 10 years old; and she sells her paintings as a side hustle. She has run an ongoing art therapy group for veterans at Bastion Community of Resilience since 2018. She has a Masters Degree from Lesley University in Mental Health Counseling and Expressive Therapies. Raney-Mills is on a mission to guide as many humans as she can to the rhythm and ritual of intentional daily living through energy attunement, science, and intuition!

This two hour Introduction to Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) workshop will summarize the theoretical underpinnings and method of TCTSY, and offer a brief review of the evidence of efficacy.

In addition, participants will have the opportunity to experience a 5-10 minute TCTSY movement practice. You will not be qualified to facilitate TCTSY or earn CEUs from thisworkshop. (In the future, I may offer a 3 hour version for yoga teachers, which would qualify participants for 4 Yoga Alliance CEUs. Stay tuned!)


TCTSY is the world’s original yoga for trauma, and has been found to be as effective as talk therapy through twenty years of original research. It’s the only yoga program developed by Bessel van der Kolk’s team.

Michelle is one of two currently certified TCTSY facilitators in the state of Louisiana. Developed as a somatic adjunct to talk therapy for the treatment of complex trauma and PTSD, 8 - 10 sessions of TCTSY practice has been proven to reduce trauma symptoms such as disconnection to one’s body, interpersonal distrust, anxiety, and even physical pain.


Your facilitator, Michelle Scandurro, is a 200 RYT yoga teacher with both TCTSY-F and mindful meditation certifications. Once upon a time, she taught high school English and was a high school administrator, both of which she loved. She currently teaches trauma-informed
Restorative Yoga at Swan River Yoga in New Orleans. A survivor of complex trauma, she brings her own healing experiences to the mat. She humbly offers to hold a space for mutual learning and healing.

In Reiki II, we join together with other practitioners of Reiki I, to “Call Your Power Back & Let Go of What is Not You.”
 
This Reiki II training is not open to the public, as one must first acquire the completion of a Reiki I module. (This may have been completed at Swan River or elsewhere, but please send in proof of completion.)
 
This training is broken down into two parts on two weekends for ease of practice and learning.
 
Reiki II requires the student to advance deeper into meditative attunements in order to invite the understanding of the nature of energy exchanges, where we place our power and what we draw from to increase our power. We will assess places in our human energy field where our energy leaks and call upon the teachings of Mikao Usui to clear what must return to the Source in order to feel attuned to a greater Power.

We will continue to enhance our connection to the Divine Source and how to keep the Light Sacred while learning how to ethically practice on others.

Students will learn the following:

  • 3 Reiki sacred symbols and their meaning and use.
  • How to conduct Reiki healing over distance + time.
  • Symbols and protocols that focus on healing earlier life events in past life healing.
  • Clearing and balancing energy techniques.
  • How to use cord cutting as a means for calling one’s power back.
  • How to create and cleanse spaces.
  • Enhanced visualization techniques with Reiki mantras and sacred mudras

A five-day immersion; 6 hours a day; two 3-hour sessions with 1 hour break

Have you ever wished you knew more about anatomy so you could help your students more effectively as well as deepen your own practice? Maybe you have felt unsure about where to learn more? Or maybe you are intimidated about how to learn more about anatomy and how it effects movement, specifically in yoga asana? Then this course is made just for you!

We will study each section of the vertebral column individually and then note how the column interacts with the pelvis and shoulder girdle.

In the morning sessions we will start with theory and then immediately practice Active asana so you can feel the principals at work in your body and observe it in others. The afternoons will be focused on Quiet asana so we can understand what part the vertebral column plays in pranayama, meditation, and Restorative practice.

The spine is at the core of the body as well as being the basic structure through which we practice asana and move our energy.

This 30-hour professional training will focus specifically on the vertebral column using lecture and demonstration. An emphasis will be on the immediate application of what we learn to the art of practicing and teaching yoga.

We will pursue such concerns as what makes each region different, how do specific poses effect each region, as well as how we can teach in ways that both protect and healthily move the vertebral column.

It is strongly suggested that participants review the relevant anatomy of the vertebral column and muscles of the back in the required text: Yogabody: Anatomy, Kinesiology, and Asana by Judith Hanson Lasater.
Specific study: Chapter 3 – 7.

*IMPORTANT PROPS: All students are required to have props:
5 blankets, 2 blocks, 1 bolster, 1 strap, 1 eyebag or eye pillow. *Judith will have eyebags for sale 

Swan River can provide some props. If you have your own props, please do bring them, so the studio can share what we have with students who need them most. Please consider bringing any extras you may have to share!  We have been so grateful to students who have helped us successfully outfit their classmates with all required props during our previous workshops with Judith.
